THRIFT STORE / VOLUNTEER

Volunteer at the Thrift Store

When you volunteer at the NHS Thrift Store, you’re doing more than organizing shelves — you’re helping save lives.

100% of proceeds from the store go directly towards caring for the animals at the Northumberland Humane Society Shelter. Every item sold helps provide food, shelter, medical care, and a second chance for pets in need.

Whether you're assisting customers, sorting donations, or creating displays, your time supports a greater cause — and makes a real impact.

The Customer Service role includes greeting customers enetring the store and letting them know what sales are on. As the role includes being the Cashier on shift who is answering customer questions in store or on phone. Morning shift is responsible for setting up cash counter and putting the open and donation signs out on front lawn. The afternoon shift performs daily sales close out and cash count and bringing in the signs from front lawn.

Sorting & Merchandising

This role requires some lifting and ability to inspect and research values of items donated. NHS Thrift Store is fortunate to receive many donations of quality items that become available to delight our customers. The cleanliness and presentation of the items in the store is very important so NHS would welcome any retail experience you may have for this role.

Store Support

The NHS Thrift Store is proudly staffed by volunteers, and we’re always looking for passionate, reliable individuals to join our team. Whether you're helping on the sales floor or behind the scenes, your time directly supports the animals at the Northumberland Humane Society.

Shifts are available Monday to Saturday, mornings 10.00am to 1.00pm or afternoons 1.00pm to 4.00pm.

Volunteers choose the shift/s that work best with their schedule, with some preferring to do a full day instead of a 3 hour shift. Whatever works for you, works for us! We grateful that you are choosing to share your time with the NHS.
