Built on second chances
For 60 years, the Northumberland Humane Society has provided safety, healing, and second chances to animals in need.
Through modern shelter care, emergency boarding, and essential community programs, we work to protect vulnerable pets and keep loving families together.
Your support builds a brighter, more compassionate future where every animal finds a place to belong.
Every adoption is a second chance.
At the Northumberland Humane Society, every dog, cat, and small animal who comes through our doors deserves the opportunity to heal, be loved, and find a place to call home. When you choose to adopt, you're transforming the life of one animal while creating space for another who needs our help. Together, we're building a more compassionate community—one where every adoption reflects our belief that every animal deserves a second chance and the opportunity to find their way home.

Where Animals Find Their Way Home
Animal welfare is community welfare.
When an animal needs help, there is almost always a person or family connected to their story — a senior struggling to afford pet food, a family facing a crisis, a lost animal needing to find their way home, or a pet needing care and a second chance.
For 60 years, the Northumberland Humane Society has been there for those moments.
Now, as the needs of our community continue to grow, we're building for the future — a modern, accessible animal care centre with the space, services and resources to care for more animals, support more families and help keep pets with the people who love them.

Whether you are lending a hand at the shelter, supporting our thrift store, or helping at fundraising events, your time and dedication give vulnerable animals a vital second chance.

Your generosity provides compassionate care, safe shelter, nutritious food and veterinary support for animals in need—and helps NHS provide programs and services for pets and families across our community.

Open your home to an animal in need of a second chance. Our Animal Care team takes the time to make thoughtful, lasting matches so animals and families can thrive together.

For animals recovering from illness, young litters needing extra care, or those who simply need a break from shelter life, foster families provide a temporary home filled with love, comfort and safety at an important point in their journey.

Our work extends far beyond the shelter. From the Pet Food Bank and Pet Aid to Crisis Care, lost-pet support and community outreach, NHS provides practical help for animals and the people who love them. Whenever possible, our programs help keep pets safe, healthy and together with the families who love them.

Shop, donate and make a difference for animals in our community. Proceeds from the NHS Thrift Store directly support the care of animals at the Northumberland Humane Society—from food and shelter to veterinary care and second chances.
