The NHS Pet Food Bank provides pet food support to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, helping animals stay healthy, cared for and at home with the people who love them.
We're Here to Help You Stay Together
We know that the cost of living is putting tremendous pressure on many households. Sometimes even families who have always been able to care for their animals need a little help.
Asking for support should never feel uncomfortable. Our Pet Food Bank is here to help during difficult times so that financial hardship doesn’t have to mean saying goodbye to a beloved animal.
How We Can Help
The Pet Food Bank provides short-term food support for eligible Northumberland County residents experiencing financial hardship. Support may include dry or wet food for up to two pets, depending on current donations and availability.
If your pet has particular dietary needs, please tell us when you contact us. We will always do our best to help with the food we have available.
Give Us a Call Before You Come
Because our Pet Food Bank is supported by community donations, the food available can change from week to week.
Please contact us before coming to the shelter so we can talk about what your pet needs and prepare what we can for you.
How to Access Support

Reach Out to Us
Tell us a little about your situation and your pet. Our team will explain the program and what information we need from you.

We'll Prepare Your Support
We’ll check what food is available and prepare a package based on your pet’s needs as closely as our donated inventory allows, in advance of your arrival.

Pick Up Your Pet Food
Once your package is ready, we’ll let you know when it can be picked up at the shelter. Pickups are available daily between 12 noon and 4 p.m. Please bring valid ID, proof of address and sturdy bags or containers for your food. If these pickup hours are difficult for you, please let us know and we’ll do our best to make alternate arrangements.
A Few Things to Know
Our Pet Food Bank is made possible entirely through generous community donations, which means the food, brands and quantities available can change.
We primarily receive food for dogs and cats and will always do our best to find a suitable option for your pet.
If We Don't Have What Your Pet Needs
Please still talk with us. If we don’t have the right food available, we’ll do our best to help you explore other local resources and options.
Tell Us About Your Pet
If your pet has allergies, sensitivities or specific dietary needs, please let us know when you contact us. While we can't guarantee a particular food or brand, we'll do our best with the food available.

A bag of pet food can do more than fill a bowl. It can help keep an animal healthy, ease the pressure on a family and help a beloved pet remain at home.
Donations to our Pet Food Bank make that possible.
What We Need Most
We welcome sealed, unexpired dry and canned food for dogs and cats, along with unused litter and unopened treats. To help keep the animals we serve safe, we’re unable to accept opened containers, expired items or damaged packaging.
Bringing Your Donation to NHS
Donations can be brought directly to the shelter during regular our regular business hours.
If you're planning to bring a large quantity of food or supplies, please give us a quick call before you come so we can be ready to welcome you and make receiving your donation as easy as possible.
